About Remme-Los

About Remme-Los - Independent Living Centre.

Quadriplegics founded Remme-Los in 1987/88 to provide permanent accommodation, transport, and essential services for people with spinal injuries. From day one, the centre focused on meeting these urgent needs.

Today, Remme-Los offers more than just a place to stay. It creates a warm, homely environment where quadriplegics and paraplegics can use their abilities and live as independently as possible. This independence helps residents lead fuller, more normal lives.

In addition to on-site housing, Remme-Los supports those living on their own or with family. As a result, the centre now reaches far beyond its physical boundaries.

Currently, over 5% of the local population lives with a disability. To assist them, Remme-Los runs care services, skills training, capacity building, poverty relief, outreach, and prevention programs. These efforts directly address the many challenges this community faces.

Importantly, the centre supports not just individuals with spinal injuries, but also their caregivers and families. This holistic approach strengthens the entire support system.

However, government subsidies fall short of covering all expenses. For this reason, Remme-Los depends on donors to continue its work.

As a registered non-profit, Remme-Los qualifies as a beneficiary under Code Series 700 (Socioeconomic Development) of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice (Gazette No. 29617). This status encourages businesses to contribute and make a lasting impact.
